Recovery With a Purpose Training Program
Have we ever mentioned that the women in the Recovery With a Purpose Training Program do so much more than bake cakes? While they do bake cakes, and usually look forward to that part of the job the most, these women also maintain the kitchen for Foodworks Alliance and its clients. They scrub the ovens until they are spotless, sanitize every inch of the kitchen, sweep and mop the kitchen floor to a sparkle after each use. They take out the trash, inventory ingredients, wash dishes, anticipate needs, and make sure the freezers and refrigerators are in perfect working order.
When they are not baking cakes, fulfilling orders or cleaning the kitchen they are processing the produce that we pick up from the Mid Ohio Produce. They weigh pounds of fruit or vegetables, painstakingly peeling, coring, chopping and cooking ready to eat food that they deliver for donation to Christ’s Table, The Salvation Army of Zanesville, Trulight Ministries. All the while collecting the scraps to feed the hogs on a local farm to aid in our 0 waste effort.
Not only do they process all of this produce that might otherwise end up in a local landfill, but also help on client productions. They put on their aprons, hairnets, gloves and begin recording lot codes, measuring ingredients, labeling, or helping fill BBQ sauce bottles, cleaning up spills, learning the equipment, and packaging requirements.
Even still, not only do they help with client productions but they help with recipe testing and development, making charcuterie boxes, Pickle Bread, Pickle Party Mix, recipe testing and development, helping with fundraisers, making lunches for events, and all in all making the FoodWorks Alliance kitchen run as smooth as possible.
We are so incredibly proud of all of our trainees and as our recent graduates from the program, Anne and Heather, have moved on to bigger and better things, we are so excited to have Tiffany and Brittany join our team. Thank you so much for all that you do!
